The Wolfman Review on DVD/Bluray 6/1/10

The Wolfman remake hits dvd and bluray tomorrow June 1st.
I really can't justify a review of the disc, because of the nature of it. This version of the film is the Director's Cut and from what I hear a vastly improved version.
I can comment on the theatrical experience. The Wolfman is a highly stylized remake of the classic Lon Chaney Universal horror flick.
The set design, cinematography and atmosphere of the flick is tremedous and sets the stage wonderfully.
As per usual, Anthony Hopkins steals the show with his nack for these period pieces. He has always had an aire of menace since he played Hannibal Lector. He is a true delight as the tormented father figure of Benecio Del Toro's character.
Benecio gives a strong performace as well as Emily Blunt. But, all in all the movie didn't work for me. I can't quite figure it out. I have a tremendous love for the original and that may be what is steering me wrong. This is a vague explanation, but it just didn't seem right....the pace was overtly slow and the creature was not that frightening.
I do plan to give the director's cut a view and see if some my issues are worked out.
For now, 4 out of 10.
